Five Reasons to Choose Jamaica for a Diving Vacation

Jamaica is known to be a paradisiacal place of white-sand beaches and luxury resorts—but whatever your budget is, it can also make a great destination for a diving vacation.

There’s plenty to love about this Caribbean nation, and the fact that scuba diving in Jamaica provides some of the best diving in the world is not least amongst those reasons.

Here are five (plus one!) reasons why Jamaica should be the spot where you take your next dive(s):

1. It’s easy to get to.

Depending on where you’re flying from, you may not be able to find a direct flight to Jamaica, but if you’re able to survive the layover, you’ll find that round-trip flights to Jamaica aren’t too prohibitively expensive, especially not in comparison with flights to Bali or other diving hot-spots.

Not only that, but you’ll stay in the same time zone as the Eastern US (EST), meaning that you won’t have to worry as much about those long flights and jet-lag.

Especially if you’ve only got a short vacation, Jamaica may be the best option just in terms of logistics.

2. The diving is world-renowned.

When you think of popular diving destinations, Jamaica may not make the list—but that’s not because it doesn’t have a lot to offer!

The beaches themselves are gorgeous, and the waters are even better (and stay relatively warm).

There are plenty of underwater species to see during your dives, from fish and coral to sharks and rays and everything in between. One thing’s for sure: you definitely won’t get bored down there!

3. You can’t forget the amazing wrecks in the area.

Wreck diving can be some of the most fun diving. In some ways, it’s like visiting a time capsule under the water.

Off the coast of Jamaica, you’ll find everything from boats to airplanes, scattered at a variety of depths.

For an easy wreck dive, check out Shipwreck Reef, where even snorkelers can spot the abandoned freighter that sits at only fifteen feet below the surface.

But although this is one of the most well-known wrecks off Jamaica, there are plenty more to explore.

4. It’s a good place to learn.

Okay, so maybe you haven’t picked up your dive certification yet—no problem! There are plenty of tour companies in Jamaica that will show you the ropes even if you’re a total beginner.

And not only are the waters warmer, but dive packages are generally cheaper in Jamaica than they would be back home (and you can often get discounts to make things even cheaper for yourself!).

Even if you’re just looking to “test the waters,” it’s an excellent place to do so.

5. It’s a great place to relax.

Of course, the diving is fantastic in Jamaica—but you’re also on vacation, and that means there’ll be times when you just want to relax!

In this chilled-out country where time seems to move a bit more slowly than in the rest of the world, you’ll find plenty of calming things to do during your downtime, whether it’s hanging out on the beach or kicking back in the hotel room with some Netflix, all you have to do is set up a VPN on your computer or device so that you can get around.

Whether you come to Jamaica alone, as a couple, as friends or as a family, you’re sure to enjoy it.

+1. Who wouldn’t want to see this amazing cliff dive?

I’m pretty sure I’d have a heart attack even watching that in person, let alone attempting it—but what an amazing feat to view!

If you’re looking for the adrenaline rush of a lifetime, Jamaica may be the best option for you.

So, are you hooked yet? Believe it or not, this is only a short selection of the reasons Jamaica makes a great diving destination.

It really is one of the best places in the world to plan a dive trip to, for reasons ranging from the food to the people to the diving itself. Definitely don’t hesitate before you begin your planning!
